In this lab, in addition to creating complex part program, we will also be performing a multitip probe qualification. If you do not have
access to a multitip probe, skip step 2b. The standard Brown & Sharpe RefleX "demo block" will again be used, as in Lab 1. All nominals and tolerances can be found in the tolerance
table, located at the end of this lab.Step 1. Multitip Probe Qualification Process
- Setup either a preconfigured star probe, or the star builder stylus extenders with 3 tips. (one tip straight down, one tip towards the front, and one tip towards the right.)
Note: With a MIP, each tip is at a different angle.
- In the measurement mode, from the
Tools
softkey, select the Probe softkey. (If you have just powered up the system, you can do this qualification when prompted after the home screen.)
Select the Select Probe Type softkey.
Choose TTP, with offsets and diameter set to Qualify and configuration set to Multi Tip.
Proceed with first tip probe qualification.
When finished with the first qualification, select the Next Tip softkey.
Proceed to qualify remaining 4 (or 2) tips.
Step 2. Resetting the Measurement Mode If you have just turned on your controller, enter the tools menu in the Measurement Mode and select the
Reset Measurements Mode softkey. When prompted, press Done.
Step 3: Setting Up the Demo Block
- Position the RefleX Demo Block on the granite such that the slot (located on the top) is toward the front of the machine.
- Using standard Brown & Sharpe clamping equipment, clamp the demo block to the granite.
Step 4: Performing a 'Separate Origin' Alignment
- Verify that the straight down tip, tip 1 is active by looking at the number next to the probe icon on the left side of the status bar. If it is not, use the
Recall Probe Tip softkey located in the Probe Menu of the Tools
.
Working Plane: Take four (or more) points on the top of the part. Press the Done button. Press the
Set Level -Datum A softkey.
Major Axis: After locking the machine's Z axis at an appropriate height, measure a line across the front of the RefleX demo block from left to right. Press the
Set Axis -Datum B softkey.
Measure 64mm center bore. Select the Done softkey.
Tolerance to Diameter to Full Format, and enter nominal and tolerances. Set the location and roundness to none.
Origin: Set the origin by pressing the Set Origin - Datum C.
Save this datum as 'Datum 1' by selecting the Save Datum button from the Datum Menu
of the Tools.
Step 5: Measuring a Counterbore
- Measure the 64 mm center bore using the Full Display format. Set appropriate nominals and tolerances. Print out location and diameter.
Step 6: Finding Concentricity
- Press the
Relationships softkey. With the right arrow
softkey, scroll to the "Concentricity" screen.
Enter appropriate nominals and tolerances.
Select the Printer softkey.
Press the Relationships softkey to toggle the system to single feature mode.
Step 7: Translating an Origin
- From the
Datum Menu in the Tools, select the
Translate softkey.
Set the X, Y, and Z values to 44.000 mm, 43.000 mm, and 0.000 mm respectively. (1.73 in, 1.69 in, 0.000 in) Notice the counters change in the upper right corner of the screen.
Measure the Right, Rear 18 mm hole.
Set appropriate nominals and tolerances.
Select the Printer softkey.
Step 8: Construct the Bolt Hole
- From the
Datum Menu in the Tools, Select the
Recall Datum softkey. Check the counters.
Measure the Left Rear 12 mm hole and scroll to the "True Position" screen.
Scroll to the "Circle" screen if necessary.
Set the TP tolerance to MMC and enter tolerances.
Enter appropriate MMC nominals and tolerances.
Select the Printer softkey.
Repeat steps 2-4 for remaining three 12 mm holes.
Step 9: Compute Bolt Hole Location
- From the
Constructions softkey in the Tools, Select the
Construct Circle softkey.
Select the last four 12 mm holes, followed by the Done softkey.
Enter appropriate nominals and tolerances.
Select the Printer softkey.
Step 10: Compute Concentricity
- From the 2nd screen of the
Tools, select the Set Reference Feature.
Select the original 64 mm Center-Bore. Press Done.
Select the Relationships softkey, so that the original 64 mm Center-Bore and the previous constructed circle are related.
Using the right arrow, scroll to the "Concentricity" screen.
Select the Printer softkey.
Reenter the Set Reference Feature option, and turn off the Reference feature. Press the Done softkey.
Press the Relationships softkey to toggle into single feature mode.
Step 11: Check the Squareness
- Measure the right, rear 18 mm hole as a cylinder by taking at least 10 points, starting at the top and spiraling towards the bottom.
- Using the right arrow, scroll to the "Squareness" screen.
- Set the reference length to 16 mm. (The depth of the bore).
- Set appropriate nominals and tolerances.
- Select the
Printer softkey.
Step 12: Probe Qualification or Recall Tip
- If the system is currently configured with a multitip probe, simply recall tip 2, measure the 18 mm hole (located on the left side of the part). Set appropriate nominals and tolerances.
Select the
Printer softkey. Recall tip 1.
Otherwise: Rotate the probe to an angle that will allow measurement of the hole in the left side of the demo block. Qualify this probe. Measure the 12 mm hole. Set appropriate
nominals and tolerances. Select the Printer softkey. Requalify the probe in the straight down position.
Step 13: Measure a Length
- Measure a point on the left edge of the part. Select the
Done softkey.
Measure a point on the right edge of the part. Select the Done softkey.
Select the Relationships softkey.
Using the Right Arrow, scroll to the 'Dist Along X' screen.
Set appropriate nominals and tolerances
Select the Printer softkey.
Step 14: Measure a Depth
- Measure a plane on the top surface. Select the
Done softkey.
Measure a plane on the step of the center counter bore. Select the Done softkey.
Select the Relationships softkey. Using the Right Arrow, scroll to the
'Perpendicular Distance' screen.
Set appropriate nominals and tolerances.
Select the Printer softkey.
Step 15: A Roundness Plot
- Lock the Z rail at an appropriate height to measure the counterbore.
- Measure the counterbore, taking at least 30 points.
- Select the
Relationships softkey to place the system in single feature mode.
Using the Right Arrow, scroll to the 'Roundness' screen.
Set appropriate nominals and tolerances.
Select the Printer softkey.
Step 16: Save the Program
- Select the
Store Program softkey, located in the Program Store/Recall
menu of the second page of the Tools.
Make sure that a formatted smart card is in the lower slot. If the card has not yet been formatted, select the Done
button when the 'format card' screen appears.
Enter a numeric program name of your choice. RefleX does not support alphanumeric names.
Step 17: Playback the Program The inspect sequence of lab 2 is now complete.
- Select the
Tools softkey.
Use the Down Arrow to go to the second level of tools.
Select the Playbacksoftkey.
The system is now ready to "play back" your previously measured demo block. The software will guide you through each measurement and apply the appropriate nominals and tolerances
where appropriate. Good luck! |
