Setting up Trumpet Winsock for use with CompuServe in Windows3.X

Creating Program Group and Icon

  1. Go to the File Manager.
  2. Select File, New Group.
  3. Type a name for the group, CompuServePPP
  4. Click on OK.
  5. Select File, New Item.
  6. Type the name for the group item, Trumpet
  7. In command line type: c:\bnsmc\trumpet\trumpet.exe
  8. In working directory type: c:\bnsmc\trumpet
  9. Click on OK.

Setting up Network Configuration in Trumpet

  1. Double click on the Trumpet icon.
  2. Select File,  Setup. Your screen should look like the picture below.
  3. The SLIP Port is actually the COM port that your modem in on, this may be different then what is shown. You will have to change this if it is not correct. Simply type in the port number and press the OK button.
  4. A message box will appear telling you that you have to restart Trumpet, do not restart at this time, just press the OK button.
  5. Select File, PPP Options.
  6. Make sure Password Authentication Protocol is checked.
  7. Put in your username and password in the appropriate boxes.
  8. Click on OK.
  9. Select File, Exit.
  10. Double click on the Trumpet icon to re-start the application.
  11. Select Dialer, setup.cmd
  12. Put in the correct phone number, username and your password.
  13. Now, to dial, select Dialer, Login, and it will log you into CompuServe.
